While Paris St Germain are resigned to losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the future of Edinson Cavani is far more ambiguous but the Uruguayan striker still has his admirers. In the latest transfer news, Cavani says Atletico Madrid interest is "pleasing".
The 29-year-old, who scored 26 goals and 52 outings in a perfect 1 in 2 goals to games ratio this season, told journalists at a news conference that it would be "improper" to talk about speculation linking him away from the Parc des Princes, before going on to talk about speculation linking him away from the Parc des Princes.
Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid, who eliminated PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Bayern Munich from the competition, lost the trophy on penalties to local rivals Real Madrid.
However, manager Diego Simeone refuses to rest on his laurels and is determined to further improve his squad by recruiting Edinson Cavani.
This latest transfer news has been warmly received by Cavani himself, who is quoted by the Daily Mail to have said: "[Atletico are] a really competitive team that [have] demonstrated interest in me and that pleases me, you never know if things could go further."
He added: "Football is always changing and you never know. Right now I'm a PSG player and I have to respect that. It would be improper to talk about [the rumours]."
It is perhaps an open secret that Cavani was allegedly frustrated at various points in the season with PSG and has therefore attracted interest from some of the major clubs in the Premier League and beyond.
Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with the £35m-rated Cavani in recent months.
Cavani is contractually-bound to PSG until 2018.
