Karl Henry not a dirty player, says Kevin Doyle

Football News Staff - 4 Oct 2010

Wolves forward Kevin Doyle has defended team-mate Karl Henry following his red card at the weekend.

Wolves have been criticised for their physical approach in recent weeks, and Henry became their second player to be sent off this season when he was shown a straight red for a reckless challenge on Jordi Gomez just 10 minutes into the 2-0 defeat at Wigan.

But Doyle insists Wolves are not a dirty side and is hoping that referees will not be influenced into thinking they are in future Premier League games.

The Irishman said: “Karl is a very clean and fair player. He apologised to all the lads at the end of the game.

“He is not a dirty player although we could not argue with the red card.

“The only thing I hope it doesn’t do is influence referees in situations where they think Wolves put in a few dirty tackles.

“Over the course of the season we will show that we are not (a dirty side). If you look at it last year, we were one of the fairest sides in the league and I’m sure we will be again.”
