Karl Henry: I did not set out to hurt Fulham ace Bobby Zamora

Football News Staff - 13 Sep 2010

Wolves captain Karl Henry has hit back at claims he meant to injure Fulham striker Bobby Zamora.

The England international suffered a broken leg in the Cottagers' 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday, falling awkwardly under a challenge from Henry.

Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has accused the player of deliberately injuring Zamora, but Henry says those claims are “a load of rubbish”.

He said: “I never would try to do anything deliberately to hurt anybody.

“I was having a go at Dempsey and he was having a go at me. I don’t want to hear from another professional that I have gone out ‘do’ somebody. That wasn’t the case and is disappointing.

“It was a fair tackle and I tried to win the ball. I am sorry that I have done damage to him because that is the last thing I would have wanted.

“I know Bobby and we have the same agent. We went away together with the England U21s.

“I would never go out to hurt anyone, let alone him. I have just tried to win the ball and I could see he was in agony straight away and called the physio.”
