Wigan set to seal swoop for Hamilton starlet James McArthur

Football News Staff - 21 Jul 2010

Wigan have agreed a fee with Hamilton for midfielder James McArthur.

McArthur, 22, has been linked with a move to the DW Stadium for some time, and the Accies have now confirmed that the deal would be completed following a medical on Thursday.

Chairman Ronnie MacDonald told the club’s official website: “After protracted negotiations we have agreed to transfer James McArthur to Wigan Athletic FC subject to the player passing a medical at Wigan on Thursday.

“The transfer of James comes exactly one year after James McCarthy move to Wigan and I am confident that ‘Auld’ James will be just as successful in England.

“Our sadness at his departure is outweighed by our feeling of pride in his success and the way he acquitted himself in the Accies shirt.

“The terms of the sale agreement forbid the disclosure of the sums involved, but the Accies will receive a substantial initial fee and ‘add ons’ based on appearances.”
