West Ham manager Avram Grant has revealed Liverpool made a late play for striker Carlton Cole.
After a busy summer, the Hammers were quiet on transfer deadline day as the summer window came to an end.
But Grant has claimed Liverpool, linked with a £9m move for Cole in recent weeks, did approach the Upton Park club over a possible deal, using Ryan Babel as bait.
Grant told Sky Sports News: “I think Liverpool were interested (in Cole) at the last moment, they tried to do something.
“I don’t think it was an offer. (Babel) was one of the suggestions to do or not to do.”
