West Ham agree fee for New Zealand star Winston Reid - report

Football News Staff - 4 Aug 2010

West Ham have agreed a deal for New Zealand World Cup hero Winston Reid, according to Skysports.com.

The 22-year-old defender, who plays his club football for Danish side FC Midtjylland, made a name for himself when he headed a last-gasp equaliser for the All Whites against Slovakia.

The Hammers hinted on Tuesday that they were hoping to sign a player who “represented his country with distinction at the 2010 World Cup”.

And it appears they have won the race to sign Reid, with reports suggesting they have agreed a £4m deal with Midtjylland.

If the deal goes through, Reid will be the fifth summer signing made by new manager Avram Grant.

Former Portsmouth boss Grant has already swooped for Pablo Barrera, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Frederic Piquionne and Tal Ben Ham.
