Matthew Upson has ruled out discussing a new West Ham contract until the end of the season.
The England international, who has made well over 100 appearances for the Hammers since joining from Birmingham City in 2007, is in the final year of his current deal.
Upson has repeatedly been linked with a move away from Upton Park, and the 31-year-old admits West Ham’s current predicament, being bottom of the Premier League table, could be a major factor in where he is plying his trade next season.
The centre-back said: “Nothing has been done and we will just see how it plays out this season.
“The club are in quite a difficult position in terms of assessing where to head in the summer.
“Obviously a lot depends on their Premier League status and other issues. You can't possibly say what will happen.
“We spoke but it is in a position that is on hold and we will see how it plays out.”
You can watch Upson in action this evening when West Ham host his former club Birmingham City in the Carling Cup, live on BBC Two and at bet365. The kick-off time is 19.45 GMT.
