West Ham forward Carlton Cole has admitted a Football Association charge of improper conduct.
The 27-year-old forward has been charged over comments he made on Twitter prior to the England national team’s friendly against Ghana at Wembley Stadium last month.
Cole had tweeted: “Immigration has surrounded the Wembley premises! I knew it was a trap! Hahahaha.
“The only way to get out safely is to wear an England jersey and paint your face w/ (with) the St. George's flag!”
Despite withdrawing his remarks the Hammers striker has still been charged, and he will now have a personal hearing in front of a disciplinary panel in the next few days.
A statement released by the FA read: “West Ham United's Carlton Cole has admitted to a charge of improper conduct in relation to media comments.
“The charge relates to comments made by Cole on Twitter during the England v Ghana fixture on Tuesday, March 29, 2011.
“Cole has requested a personal hearing which will take place before April 21, 2011.”
