Paul Scharner is hoping to make his West Brom debut against Tottenham next Saturday.
The Austria midfielder, 30, was without a club during the summer months after leaving Wigan, and had to train on his own to maintain his fitness levels.
But Scharner is planning to use the next week to prove his sharpness and earn himself a place in the side to face Spurs.
He told the Birmingham Mail: “I am feeling very fit. I trained a lot in Germany, Austria and Birmingham.
“I think it should take a week to be properly match-fit but I’m confident I’ll be ready soon. If selected for the next game, I will be ready.”
