Suspended sentence for West Brom defender Joe Mattock

Football News Staff - 3 Sep 2010

West Brom defender Joe Mattock has been given a suspended sentence for throwing punches in a Leicester nightclub last August.

The 20-year-old, who earlier admitted a charge of affray, was given 10 months detention, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work.

Mattock, who had been given “grief” over his move from Leicester to the Baggies, was also told to pay £1,500 costs.

Judge Michael Pert QC told Mattock: “The plain fact of the matter is you were earning what most people would regard as a king’s ransom.

“If the price of that is to take some stick in a nightclub in your home city when you had left Leicester for another club, frankly you should have been able to handle it.”
