Steven Reid injury blow for West Brom

Football News Staff - 4 Jan 2011
West Brom defender Steven Reid is facing at least six weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Right-back Reid tore a cartilage during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend and scans have now confirmed he is facing a spell out of the side.

Manager Roberto Di Matteo told Albion’s official website: “It's really bad news for Reidy.

“He is an important member of our squad and was playing well until he was forced off. The big thing about Reidy is that he offers cover for so many positions.

“He's likely to be out for a minimum of six weeks and all we can do is wish him well with his surgery and a speedy recovery.”

But there has been some good news on the injury front for Di Matteo, with Pablo Ibanez’s hamstring injury not as bad as first feared.

The Baggies boss added: “Pablo's hamstring was playing up on Saturday and he couldn't continue but it looks as though we caught the problem early as the scan results are very positive.

“We'll just have to assess him on a day-to-day basis.”
