West Brom are close to wrapping up a deal for Aston Villa full-back Nicky Shorey.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has confirmed Shorey is to undergo a medical at the Hawthorns and expects a deal to be done in the next couple of days.

He said: “I would have liked to have filled you in to let you know if that had progressed at this minute but I do know he was going for a medical.

“I know some fee had been agreed but like anything else until it’s all done and dusted you never know. It seemed everything was in place at the time.”
