Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe may not need operation

Football News Staff - 26 Aug 2010

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe could perform a U-turn over his imminent groin surgery.

Defoe is poised to go under the knife next week in a bid to cure the problem, which has troubled him since the World Cup.

But speaking after the 4-0 win over Young Boys, in which Defoe scored, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: “Now he is saying he might not need it. We are in the hands of the medical people, but he said he did not feel anything tonight.

“I would rather he get it done, I don’t want it dragging on all year for him, there is a fortnight break coming up (due to international games) and he could be fit in three weeks if he has it done on Tuesday, so it may be better to get it done. We will have to wait and see.”
