Tottenham face Gareth Bale battle, claims ex-player

Football News Staff - 11 Mar 2011
Former Tottenham midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng believes the club face a fight to keep Gareth Bale this summer.

Wales international Bale has emerged as one of European football’s top players this season with a string of fine performances, both domestically and on the continent.

The 21-year-old’s displays are believed to have earned him the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs, and Boateng expects them to make a play for the left-sided player in the summer.

The AC Milan midfielder told The Mirror: “Gareth was the player all the Milan players have been talking about (ahead of the Champions League tie with Spurs), because of his pace and left foot.

“When I played here there were talents like Gareth and Aaron Lennon, but they have improved a lot.

“I think the whole of Europe is after Gareth, because he is a great player.

“The way he played against Inter was impressive and everyone said: 'Who is this player? We need to get him.'

“I think it will be difficult for Tottenham to keep him but he is feeling good here in London, so we will see in the summer what is going to happen.

“With his quality, his pace and his strength, he could do well in any league.”

Bale has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days, and responding to the speculation the Tottenham man told Gol TV: “At the moment I'm happy at Tottenham.

“The truth is I cannot discuss this matter. I'm enjoying the football here and I hope to improve.”
