Jonathan Woodgate has suffered another setback as he attempts to rescue his Tottenham career.
The injury-plagued centre-back featured in a friendly against Barnet on Tuesday in a bid to build up his match fitness following a groin injury, but the 31-year-old ended up limping off with a calf problem.
And manager Harry Redknapp has now confirmed Woodgate will not be available for next week’s Champions League clash with former employers Real Madrid.
The Spurs boss told The Sun: “It's not good news - a real blow to him and the club.
“He had been training well recently and I was hoping to feature him against Real next week.
“He'll still travel with us as part of the squad. Real is his old club and this match means so much to him.”
Woodgate’s current deal with Tottenham is set to expire this season and Redknapp has already confirmed only a “pay as you play” offer will be on the table for the player, who has made just 65 appearances since moving to White Hart Lane three years ago.
