Roman Pavlyuchenko wanted by Spartak Moscow

Football News Staff - 10 Feb 2011
Roman Pavlyuchenko is to be offered a summer escape from Tottenham by former club Spartak Moscow.

The 29-year-old joined Spurs for £11m in 2008, but he has slowly slipped down the pecking order at White Hart Lane and recently claimed he was “tired” of working under Harry Redknapp.

Newcastle United, who are desperately searching for a new forward following the sale of Andy Carroll and an injury to Shola Ameobia, are reportedly interested in signing Pavlyuchenko.

But Spartak have confirmed they will be looking to re-sign the Russia international when the transfer window re-opens at the end of the season.

Director Dmitri Popov told Championat.ru: “Roman Pavlyuchenko is a top-class player.

“In the Russian championship he has scored goals consistently, plus he has a Russian passport. In addition he has played for the club.

“Therefore you can understand why we are interested.

“The thing will be the price that Tottenham want. Last year we made an official offer and never received a reply.”
