Jonathan Woodgate may land new Tottenham deal

Football News Staff - 21 Feb 2011
Injury-plagued defender Jonathan Woodgate could be offered another contract with Tottenham.

The 31-year-old, who is in the final year of his deal with Spurs, made his first appearance in 16 months as a second-half substitute in last week’s Champions League win over AC Milan.

Woodgate suffered a left adductor strain in that game, putting him out of action for another couple of weeks, but Redknapp believes the former Real Madrid and Newcastle United man can overcome the latest setback.

And the former West Ham and Portsmouth boss has admitted he is keen to keep the centre-back at White Hart Lane.

Redknapp said: “Hopefully he will get a deal.

“I want him to come back fit. He's a great player.

“I'd love to see him get his career back on track because when I came here two years ago he was one of the first names on the sheet, a different class.

“He's one of the best centre-halves around.”
