Heurelho Gomes will look to put his Champions League blunder behind him as Tottenham bid for an immediate return to the competition.
Gomes fumbled a Cristiano Ronaldo shot into his goal as Spurs exited Europe’s grandest stage with a 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday night, with his goal all but ending the White Hart Lane outfit’s attempts to overturn a four-goal deficit from the first leg.
And while the Brazilian admits he was at fault for the goal, he insists he must look forward as Tottenham bid for a top-four finish in the Premier League that would lead to a place in the qualifying rounds of next season’s Champions League.
Gomes said: “The ball moved a little bit but it was a mistake and I accept it.
“This was not my first mistake and I know it will not be the last one in my career, but I need to show character like I did before.
“I know I was so important for the club and I need to move on because they need me. We have a lot of big games coming up and I need to recover quick.
“It was a difficult moment for me but I have to look forward because I know how important that is for the team.”
He added: “The dream is over but we will still keep going to make sure we get a place in next year's competition.
“There are a lot of big games coming up and we need to look forward to those games. This season is not over yet.”
