Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp remains hopeful that Gareth Bale will face Real Madrid next week.
A hamstring injury forced Bale out of the Wales squad for the weekend defeat to England, and it also means he is likely to miss this weekend’s Premier League clash with Wigan Athletic.
The 21-year-old left-sided star is now facing a race against time to be fit for the first leg of Spurs’ Champions League quarter-final showdown with Madrid, but Redknapp believes there is a chance he could have the player available for the game at the Bernabeu.
He told Sky Sports News: “Gareth worked with the fitness coaches and he looked OK (on Thursday morning).
“Whether he is OK to play two games this weekend is doubtful.
“We will have a look at that (on Friday) and decide which way to go with it.
“We are going to leave it late. We'd love to have him fit but if he isn't fit then we can't play him.”
