David Beckham will not face Man Utd, says Tottenham boss

Football News Staff - 12 Jan 2011
David Beckham will not face former club Manchester United this weekend if he completes a loan move to Tottenham.

The 35-year-old midfielder is currently training with Spurs during the Major League Soccer off-season and boss Harry Redknapp is eager to land the Los Angeles Galaxy star on a temporary deal.

The White Hart Lane club are still believed to be in talks with their counterparts in the United States, and reports have suggested an agreement could be reached this week.

However, Redknapp admits, if a deal goes through, ex-England captain Beckham would not be fit enough to make his debut against his former employers on Sunday.

The Spurs boss said in The Sun: “Manchester United this Sunday would be a non-starter even if he does sign.

“He is not fit to play yet and he knows that. It's going to take him a few weeks to get back to anywhere near the fitness levels he's used to.”
