Sunderland have completed the loan signing of Manchester United starlet Danny Welbeck.
The 19-year-old striker has joined the Black Cats for the entire season and becomes manager Steve Bruce’s eighth signing of the summer.
Welbeck has netted five times in 24 appearances for United, while also spending time on loan at Championship side Preston last season.
He told SAFC TV: “A few Premier League clubs were interested in taking me on loan.
“I spoke to Steve Bruce a few times on the phone and the words he got across to me persuaded me to come here.
“When I knew Sunderland were interested I didn’t really look back I’m looking forward to giving it my all here.”
Welbeck is expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Birmingham and will not compete with Darren Bent, Fraizer Campbell and Martyn Waghorn for a starting spot.
