Sunderland new-boy Asamoah Gyan hopes to face Wigan

Football News Staff - 9 Sep 2010

Asamoah Gyan is relishing the prospect of making his Sunderland debut this weekend.

The 24-year-old forward, who joined from Rennes in a club-record deal on transfer deadline day, has finally linked up with his new team-mates following the international break.

Gyan could make his Black Cats bow when they travel to Wigan on Saturday, and the World Cup star admits it will be a dream-come-true if he steps out onto the pitch.

He said: “For me (the Premier League) is the best league in the world. It has been my dream to play here, so I am looking forward to playing my first game.

“Everybody watches the Premier League in Africa, it’s the best league. I have followed it well and know all about it.”

And the Ghanaian admits there is one game he is particularly looking forward to, the showdown with bitter rivals Newcastle at St James’ Park on October 31.

He added: “I didn’t know a lot about Sunderland but what I know about is the derby against Newcastle – everybody knows about that.

“I have watched the derby before and it’s quite incredible, so I can’t wait.”
