Sunderland have reportedly joined the race to sign Ghana and Rennes hitman Asamoah Gyan.
The 24-year-old enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign and could have put the African nation in the semi-finals had he not missed a last-gasp penalty against Uruguay.
However, he showed nerves of steel to immediately net during the resulting shootout, and the Daily Mail claim Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is so impressed that he is poised to make a £7m bid for the striker.
Bruce has also been linked with a loan move for another Ghanaian Dominic Adiyiah, who missed a penalty during the shootout against, while talks over a deal with Olympique Lyonnais defender John Mensah are reportedly ongoing.
