Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has rubbished speculation that Lee Cattermole is to leave the Stadium of Light.

New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is believed to have earmarked the 22-year-old midfielder as a possible replacement for Javier Mascherano, who is keen to reunite with Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan.

Bruce has already lost Cattermole’s midfield partner Lorik Cana to Galatasaray, and insists another sale is out of the question.

He said: “I have absolutely no intention of letting Lee leave this club – no whatsoever.”
