Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has confirmed his interest in veteran goalkeeper David James.
Regular number one Craig Gordon is sidelined for three months with a broken arm and the impending departure of Marton Fulop will leave Bruce without an experienced keeper, meaning he could turn to James.
The Black Cats boss told the Daily Mirror: “He’s still England’s number one goalkeeper. He’d be a good short term signing for us.
“But what we have to decide now is whether to make a signing or whether the two young keeper that we have are ready for the Premier League.
“The Premier League is a very tough place and we’ll have to take some time to think about whether they’re ready for that.”
