Anton Ferdinand is facing arrest after failing to appear for a court appearance on Monday.
Ferdinand was due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court after being convicted of driving while using a mobile phone earlier this year, but the Sunderland defender was a no-show and a warrant has now been issued for his arrest.
However, a Black Cats spokesman has insisted the 25-year-old was not notified of the date.
He said: “Anton denies receiving any correspondence in relation to this matter and is keen to clear up any misunderstanding.
“The club is liaising with Northumbria Police and Anton will surrender himself to Newcastle Magistrates’ Court as soon as is possible, in order to resolve this quickly.”
