Striker Mauro Zarate hopes Lazio can continue their Champions League push today at the expense of city rivals Roma.
The Biancoceleste currently occupy the fourth, and final, qualifying spot for next season’s competition, one point ahead of fifth-placed Udinese.
If they can end a four-game losing run in the Eternal City derby this afternoon, they would open up an eight point gap over sixth-placed Roma, and Zarate is keen to see that happen.
The Argentinian said: “If all goes well, we can extend our gap with Roma to eight points.
“For us, there is only one possible result and that is victory.
“We want to hold on to fourth spot. If we win, we could even climb to third.
“We are aware of the importance of this derby.”
While Lazio head into this game on the back of a 2-0 victory over Palermo, Roma edged to a 2-1 victory over Lecce in their most recent domestic outing. However, they will still be smarting from their disappointing Champions League exit at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk.
