Sunderland v Manchester City preview

Football News Staff - 28 Aug 2010

Manchester City will check on the fitness of striker Mario Balotelli ahead of Sunday’s trip to Sunderland. (kick-off 15.00 BST)

Balotelli sat out the midweek Europa League win over FC Timisoara with a knee problem but manager Roberto Mancini has not ruled out him making an appearance at the Stadium of Light.

James Milner is expected to return to the starting line-up having been ineligible in midweek, but City will once again be without defensive trio Alexandar Kolarov (ankle), Jerome Boateng (knee) and Wayne Bridge (toe).

Sunderland welcome back Lee Cattermole and Michael Turner from suspension, but the Black Cats will be without on-loan defender Nedum Onuoha who is unable to face his parent club.

Sunderland are also without John Mensah (hamstring), so Anton Ferdinand could make a surprise start at the back.
