Newcastle United v Manchester United preview

Football News Staff - 18 Apr 2011

Manchester United welcome back Wayne Rooney from suspension for tonight’s trip to Newcastle United. (kick-off 19.45 BST)

Rooney has sat out the last two matches, one of which was the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City, after being handed a ban for swearing into television camera.

The Red Devils also welcome back Jonny Evans from a ban, but Paul Scholes will miss the next three games after being sent off for a reckless challenge during the Wembley Stadium loss to City.

Darren Fletcher remains absent with a virus, and he joins Anders Lindegaard , Rafael da Silva (both knee) and Owen Hargreaves (shoulder) on the sidelines.

A one-match suspension rules out Newcastle United’s leading goalscorer Kevin Nolan, and he joins Dan Gosling (knee), Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg), Alan Smith and Leon Best (both ankle).

The Magpies have doubts over Steve Harper and Shola Ameobi (both knee), but they are boosted by the return of James Perch and Cheik Tiote from suspension, and on-loan midfielder Stephen Ireland could finally make his long-awaited debut.
