Steven Taylor sale ruled out by Newcastle boss

Football News Staff - 15 Oct 2010

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton insists he will not be looking to cash in on defender Steven Taylor in January.

Taylor is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and talks between the club and the player have stalled, meaning the 24-year-old could leave St James’ Park without a fee being involved next summer.

That has led to suggestions the Magpies could part with the centre-back in January in an attempt to at least receive some money for the player.

But Toon boss Hughton said: “We still very much want him at this football club.

We’re looking at him being back in full training next week. He needs to get fit. We’re aware of what a very good player he is. He’s still in some ways a youngish man.

“He was only playing in the U21s until recently, performing very well. Once he’s back to fitness he very much puts himself back in the frame to play and when that’s the case he’s a very good player.”
