Steve Harper out for three months

Football News Staff - 23 Sep 2010

Veteran Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper has been ruled out for three months after undergoing shoulder surgery.

The 35-year-old damaged ligaments in his left shoulder during a challenge by Everton striker Jermaine Beckford last weekend.

Harper landed heavily on his shoulder and had to be stretchered from the pitch, and the Magpies have now confirmed he will be out until the busy Christmas period.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Following a shoulder ligament injury sustained in United’s game against Everton on Saturday, Steve Harper has undergone a successful operation on Wednesday.

“It is likely Steve will be unavailable for selection for a period of around 12 weeks.”

Tim Krul, who came on for Harper during the 1-0 victory at Goodison Park, is expected to start Sunday’s game at Stoke.
