Newcastle have not made a bid to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matias Fernandez, his agent has insisted.
Magpies boss Chris Hughton has been linked with a January move for the Chile international, who is contracted to the Portuguese club until 2014 and is valued at around £20m.
But Fernandez’s representative Alejandro Santiesteban maintains he has not been contacted by anyone from the North East club.
Santiesteban told the Portuguese press: “I’m not aware of the reported interest in Matias from Newcastle. Nobody has got in touch with me so I think it must be a rumour.
“If a team is really interested in a player and has to pay a transfer fee then they have to get in touch with me and the club. That hasn’t happened.”
