Newcastle United have given forward Andy Carroll the green light to discuss a move to Liverpool.
The Reds made two failed bids for Carroll, the Magpies’ leading goalscorer, earlier today but the 22-year-old later requested a move away from St James’ Park and North East club granted his wish.
A statement on Newcastle’s official website read: “A transfer request from striker Andy Carroll has been accepted by Newcastle United.
“The 22-year-old England international has this afternoon handed in a transfer request, which has reluctantly been accepted by the club, and Carroll is currently in talks with Liverpool over a move to Anfield.”
Carroll now has until 23.00 GMT tonight to pass a medical and agree personal terms with the Reds, who are also set to tie up a deal for Ajax and Uruguay hitman Luis Suarez before the transfer window slams shut.
