Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson has denied a charge of violent conduct following an incident during the 5-1 defeat to Bolton at the weekend.
Williamson clashed with Wanderers forward Johan Elmander off the ball, with TV replays showing the centre-back appearing to lead with his head to block a run by the Swedish player.
Match official Howard Webb did not see the incident, meaning the Football Association were able to use video evidence to charge the 27-year-old.
And Williams has now refused to plead guilty under the FA’s fast-track process which would have seen him serve an automatic three-match suspension.
A regulatory commission will hear the charge on Wednesday and if Williamson’s appeal is unsuccessful, he will serve a ban.
