Mike Williamson charged with violent conduct

Football News Staff - 23 Nov 2010
Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson has been charged with violent conduct following an incident in the 5-1 hammering at Bolton last weekend.

Williamson floored Wanderers forward Johan Elmander in an off-the-ball incident that was not seen by match referee Howard Webb at the time.

And because of this, the Football Association have been able to use video evidence to charge the 27-year-old.

An FA statement read: “Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson has today been charged with violent conduct.

“The charge relates to an incident involving Johan Elmander in his side’s fixture with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, November 20.

“Williamson has until 6pm on Tuesday, November 23 to reply to the charge and under the FA’s fast-track regulations, may admit the charge and accept a standard three-match suspension.”

Fellow defender Fabricio Coloccini was sent off in the same game for an apparent elbow on Elmander.
