Leon Best blow for Newcastle United

Football News Staff - 6 Apr 2011
Newcastle United forward Leon Best will miss the rest of the season after being told he requires ankle surgery.

Republic of Ireland international Best, who had netted six goals in 10 starts so far this season, has missed the Magpies’ last two matches because of the problem, and the club have confirmed the 24-year-old must now undergo an operation later this week.

A statement on the North East club’s official website read: “Newcastle United can today confirm that Leon Best will undergo an operation on his injured ankle on Friday, and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

“After assessment by the Club's medical staff, Best will travel to London later this week for an operation.”

The injury will be a major blow for Newcastle boss Alan Pardew who is now left with just Shola Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands as regular starters, backed up by Nile Ranger and Shefki Kuqi.
