Hatem Ben Arfa could still join Newcastle permanently

Football News Staff - 6 Oct 2010

Marseille will not prevent Hatem Ben Arfa from making a permanent switch to Newcastle next summer.

Ben Arfa is currently on loan at St James’ Park but there have been doubts about a future deal following the injury the 23-year-old winger suffered at the weekend.

The Frenchman sustained a broken leg in a heavy challenge by Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong, ruling him out until March, and there were suggestions Marseille could block a permanent move due to criteria in his loan agreement not being met.

However, boss Didier Deschamps insists that is not the case.

He said: “There is an option for Newcastle to purchase him, bound to a number of matches. He won’t play them, obviously, but we’ll have to see what Newcastle want to do.

“There would be no problem for me in him returning to Marseille, but I don’t think it’s too much in his own plans.”
