Newcastle and England U21 forward Andy Carroll has been arrested and charged with assault.
The 21-year-old, who recently put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract with the Magpies, was arrested following an incident in Ponteland on Sunday.
And although Northumbria Police would not reveal any details about the alleged incident, a spokesman did confirm: “Andrew Thomas Carroll, 21, Prestwick, Newcastle, has been charged with assault and is due to appear before Tynedale Magistrates.”
Carroll is already due to appear in Newcastle Crown Court later this month on a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily following an incident in a nightclub last year.
And his latest arrest is his third in three years, with Carroll having been cautioned by police in 2008 following an incident in Newcastle City centre.
