Rio Ferdinand could be done for season

Football News Staff - 17 Mar 2011
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand may not play again this season, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed.

Ferdinand has been hampered by injuries in recent years and has not featured since suffering an injury during the warm-up for the February 5 defeat to Wolves.

United had been hopeful of the 32-year-old centre-back making his return to action following the winter break, but Ferguson has admitted the England international’s season may already be over.

The Red Devils boss said: “Rio has been out for a few weeks now. We are not looking at this as a short-term situation.

“He has not started training yet. We will be lucky to get him back for some part of the season.”

If Ferdinand is ruled out for the remained of the campaign it will be another big blow for the former Leeds United man after England boss Fabio Capello hinted earlier this week that he could hand the England captaincy back to John Terry.
