Rafael charged with improper conduct

Football News Staff - 18 Jan 2011
Manchester United defender Rafael Da Silva has been hit with an improper conduct charge by the Football Association.

The 20-year-old full-back was sent off for two bookable offences during the goalless draw with Tottenham at the weekend, receiving his first yellow card for a lunging challenge on Wilson Palacios before seeing his second after clipping the heels of Benoit Assou-Ekotto as the Spurs defender surged into the United half.

The charge relates to Rafael’s response to the red card, with the Brazilian having launched a verbal tirade at referee Mike Dean before kicking a television sound boom that was pitchside as he left the field.

A statement on the FA’s official website read: “Manchester United defender Rafael Da Silva has been charged by the FA with improper conduct.

“The charge relates to the player's conduct towards match official Mike Dean following his dismissal in Manchester United's fixture at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 16 January.

“The player has until 6pm on 18 January to respond to the charge.”
