Manchester United in David de Gea talks, claims agent

Football News Staff - 31 Mar 2011
Manchester United are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea, his agent has claimed.

United are looking for a new number one to succeed veteran Dutchman Edwin van der Sar when he retires at the season, and 20-year-old de Gea has regularly been one of the names linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson was believed to be scouting the Spaniard when he missed the Carling Cup tie with Scunthorpe United earlier this season, while goalkeeping coach Eric Steele has reportedly watched the player on a regular basis.

And de Gea’s representative, Hector Rincon, has now claimed that the Red Devils have agreed to meet a release fee clause in his client’s contract.

Rincon told Sport.co.uk: “Well, we did have talks with Manchester United but, first of all, they always look for an agreement with the club.

“Anyway, most of the biggest European teams have shown interest in David de Gea.”
