Yaya Toure eyes Manchester derby spoils

Football News Staff - 11 Feb 2011
Yaya Toure is confident Manchester City will cement their status as Premier League title contenders with a victory in Saturday’s derby.

City could move within two points of league-leading rivals United with a win at the weekend, but they face a difficult task against a team that has not lost at home since April of last year.

However, former Barcelona star Toure believes United’s surprise defeat to Wolves last weekend could have a negative effect on the Red Devils, and he says City are ready to capitalise if that proves to be the case.

Toure told the Daily Mirror: “For us, this derby comes at just the right moment to climb up the table.

“To win at Old Trafford would strike a great blow and show we can fight for the title.

“United have home advantage, but in these games either team can win. I beat United during my time at Barcelona and now I dream of repeating that.

“But these three points are so important and mentally we are ready. Maybe their defeat may affect them and allow us to create chances and score.

“It will be a hard game, but we'll go there looking for all three points, not just one.

“Carlos Tevez is working really hard and with the eyes of the world on this game he will want to be the star.

“It could be the biggest game of the season and while it's never easy at Old Trafford we believe it's possible as we're focused on success. We're determined to go on top of the table.”
