Manchester City have appealed against defender Pablo Zabaleta’s red card during the goalless draw at Arsenal on Wednesday night.
City claim referee Mike Jones was wrong to send off the 25-year-old Argentinian following his clash with Bacary Sagna, which led to both men being dismissed.
Gunners full-back Sagna went to ground during a challenge with Zabaleta and reacted angrily, with both players going head-to-head.
Sagna, who will not lodge an appeal against the decision, appeared to be the aggressor in the incident but there was some surprise when both men were given their marching orders.
If the City man’s appeal fails he will serve a three-match ban that will keep him out of Premier League games against Wolves and Aston Villa, and and FA Cup clash with Leicester City.
