Manchester City secured a spot in the Europa League’s last 32 with a 3-0 victory over Lech Poznan.
City took the lead in style when Pablo Zabaleta crossed for Mario Balotelli and the Italy international beat his marker to score with a stunning volley.
Balotelli then brought a decent save out of Salzburg goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel as turned the screw, and James Milner then dragged a shot wide following a surging run.
A City victory never looked in doubt and Balotelli blasted a shot into the side-netting before the former Inter Milan star doubled his side’s advantage just after the hour-mark with a simple tap-in.
A hamstring problem prevented Balotelli from going in search of his hat-trick, but there would be a third goal for the hosts, and it was worth a 78-minute wait.
Adam Johnson cut in from the left-hand side and beat three players before producing a sublime finish to beat Tremmel.
And Juventus’ surprise 1-1 draw at Polish side Lech Poznan means City are now assured of a place in the knockout stage ahead of the trip to visit the Italian giants for the final round of group fixtures.
