San Jose Earthquakes coach Frank Yallop has warned his side against being overconfident when they visit New York Red Bulls today.
The Eathquakes ousted their hosts in the MLS Cup playoffs last season, but Yallop insists that game means nothing when they bid for their second victory of the 2011 Major League Soccer campaign.
He said: “I wouldn’t say, ‘Oh, we won there, so it’s going to be easy again. No, for sure.
“Their last game was against us, to move on in the playoffs, and they’ll be ready to play against us, I’m sure.
“But our guys are just as ready to make sure we go in there with the right mentality and attitude and get a result.”
And winger Bobby Convey added: “Obviously, (the win) was last year, so it was a different team, a different season.
“Every time you start a new season, you always have to find your identity in the first five to 10 games. I think we’re still finding what we want to do.”
Both sides head into this game having recorded just one win so far this season, drawing once and losing twice.
