Steven Gerrard injury worry for Liverpool boss

Football News Staff - 4 Apr 2011
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is sweating over the fitness of captain Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard was poised to return from a spell out following groin surgery at West Brom on Saturday, but the 30-year-old suffered an injury in training last week and was ruled out of the 2-1 defeat.

Dalglish said: “Steven was training and innocuously tried to turn with the ball and felt a sharp pain – same injury but not the same thing.

“We'll get him assessed and by the end of the week we'll know better about everybody.”

Dalglish suffered further setbacks during the game at The Hawthorns with both Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson sustaining injuries early on.

And the Scot admits it would me a major setback to lose all three men at this stage of the season, with the Reds still challenging for a place in Europe next season.

He added: “To lose three players in April would be a blow for anybody.

“It's disappointing for Steven because he was training really well and looking forward to being back in among the lads.”
