Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has revealed both Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher played key roles in the capture of Joe Cole.
Former Chelsea midfielder Cole rejected Tottenham and Arsenal to agree a four-year contract with the Reds on Monday, subject to a medical.
And Hodgson revealed Gerrard and Carragher had both sold the Merseyside club to their fellow England international while in South Africa.
He told talkSPORT: “Jamie and Steven did a good job in selling the club to Joe at the recent World Cup.
“He was undecided about what he wanted to do and to be fair it takes a bit more selling to persuade a Londoner who has played all his life in London to move up to Liverpool.
“The simple solution would have been to stay in the London area.”
