Liverpool snub Chelsea bid for Fernando Torres

Football News Staff - 28 Jan 2011
Liverpool have rejected an offer from Chelsea for star striker Fernando Torres, according to a club spokesperson.

The reigning Premier League champions have previously been linked to the Spain international, with speculation in the summer suggesting he could have swapped Anfield for Stamford Bridge after Liverpool finished a disappointing seventh in the table last season.

And now the Reds claim to have snubbed a reported £35m bid from Chelsea, who are fighting to get back in the title picture following a dismal run of form that has seen them fall 10 points behind leaders Manchester United.

A spokesperson for the Liverpool told The Times newspaper: “Chelsea have made a bid for Fernando which has been turned down. The player is not for sale.”

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish will be keen to keep the World Cup winner as he looks to add more firepower to his squad during the current transfer window, which closes on Monday, and the Merseyside giants have made a failed bid for Ajax and Uruguay hitman Luis Suarez.
