Liverpool set to confirm Luis Suarez swoop

Football News Staff - 31 Jan 2011
Forward Luis Suarez is on the brink of completing his move to Liverpool from Dutch giants Ajax.

The Reds had a £22.8m offer accepted last week and the Uruguay international travelled to Merseyside at the weekend to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.

Suarez sailed through his medical and has now agreed a deal, which the club are expecting to complete before the transfer window closes at 23.00 GMT today.

A statement released by the club read: “Luis Suarez has successfully passed his medical and personal terms with the player have been agreed.

“We expect to complete the remainder of the paperwork (on Monday).”

Suarez’s arrival at Anfield could now mean a possible departure for Fernando Torres, who was the subject of a failed bid from Premier League champions at the weekend.

The Reds turned down a big-money offer from the Blues and then rejected a transfer request from the Spaniard, but it is now believed that a fee of £50m could tempt them to part with the striker.

Other reports suggest the Reds are interested in landing former player Nicolas Anelka as part of any deal with the Stamford Bridge outfit.
