Liverpool have accepted an offer from Chelsea for striker Fernando Torres, the Merseyside giants have confirmed.
The Premier League champions made a surprise bid for the Spanish World Cup winner at the weekend, but the Reds rejected their advance and then turned down a transfer request from the player.
However, with a deal for Ajax forward Luis Suarez on the verge of completing and the news that Newcastle United had accepted a big-money offer from Liverpool for Andy Carroll, it appears the Reds are now willing to part with Torres and reports are suggesting Chelsea will have to pay £50m for the striker.
A statement released on Liverpool’s official website read: “Liverpool Football Club tonight confirmed they have agreed a fee with Chelsea for the sale of Fernando Torres.
“The player has now been given permission to speak to the London club.”
